Thomas Birch was a marine, landscape, portrait, and miniature painter. The son of artist William Russell Birch, he was born in England in 1799 and emigrated to Philadelphia with his father in 1794. The two worked together as William Birch & Son until 1800, designing, engraving, and publishing views of Philadelphia. Thomas Birch continued to work in Philadelphia until his death in 1851.
